I have been in construction for almost 30 years and I have noticed more and more women are joining the workforce as Apprentices and working their way up to Journeymen. I find that inspiring.

How have you seen things change for the better for women in the industry? I have been in the construction industry for 16 years now and I will say that I am so glad to see more women entering the workplace. Construction has been a boy's club for a long time but women bring a lot to the table. The future of the industry is looking brighter and brighter every day. What do you think needs to be done to attract more women to the industry? There needs to be better education in general regarding the construction industry. This is not just for women but for everyone. The construction industry is so robust and dynamic but it's not often talked about as a career path unless you already know someone in the industry. This needs to change. Do you have any inspiring stories of women advancing in construction? Working in construction offers new and interesting challenges every day. If you are looking for a field that not only helps build the infrastructure of your community but also provides access to constant development and growth, then Construction is a great industry for you. Within the industry you have the opportunity to be a part of the physical processes, the management processes, the administrative processes, the financial processes or the technological processes. There is so much room for growth.

For our company, the percentage of women in the field is a measly 3%. I really would love to see that number increase.

I have seen over my professional career where Women have been taking more and more an active role on jobs that were predominate by men, that provides me personally with another perspective where everyone can accomplish everything that they insert themselves into. It's so encouraging to see this trend.

I think that things are definitely changing in getting more women into the industry. I feel like women in construction going to talk to girls in high school and telling them about the amazing opportunities in construction would really attract more women.
