Women are the usually the thread that pulls management and the field workers together. I'm so glad to see more women getting into the field side of construction.

There are many opportunities for women in constructions. The obstacle is there has to be a certain mind set. Just as we have women in the military to thrive they have a certain mind set. All the training and education are good start but you need to understand the environment you will be working in.

I think there has been a huge push at the high school / secondary education level to broaden the perspectives of what this industry entails. This is going to shift the tide for years to come.

While things have been getting better, we as a culture still have room to go with not just accepting, but actively encouraging females to consider career paths in construction

Women have made great inroads in construction. There are many opportunities, we just need to be bold and take that first step. I can't wait for the day when the entire job site team is made up of women.

For companies that deal with Federal Contracts, last year US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo announced a push to add 1 million tradeswomen to the workforce in the next decade. This goal is to almost double the amount in the trades at that time. In 2022, that was 10.9% of the Constuction workforce. In 2023, it is up to 14%. The Federal Government is looking at ways to make this effective. One way they are looking is to implement changes at requirements in federal contracts. Companies need to start now and look at their hiring and training practices to promote women in their workforce. It is much easier to work on self-growth and internal programs than to forcably and hurridly try to stuff programs or employees into a company that don't fit just to meet a quota.

I think getting more girls interested in construction trades while still in school will continue to help numbers rise.
