The theme of Women in Construction Week 2022 is "Envision Equity"

As we are all well aware by now, women make up a small fraction of the construction industry compared to their male counterparts. Lots can still be done to help close the gender gap and build more awareness around the amazing career opportunities in our industry. There is definitely momentum to support and hire women in construction, but many are still looking for ways to move the needle a bit faster. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this important topic! Take a minute to reply to our discussion topic and let other members know about the strides that your organization is taking to help women thrive. How have you seen things change for the better for women in the industry? What do you think needs to be done to attract more women to the industry? Do you have any inspiring stories of women advancing in construction? What are your personal successes or perceptions as it relates to this important topic?

We hire exceptional team members. Some of them are women and some are men. They are all exceptional.

I would like to see more women in our workforce and so would MSH. We have added a few but we are most likely not where we would like to be. All of our employees are fabulous and an important part of our team!

For many years now the push in high school seems to be geared towards applying and attending a "4 year collage". We should really start to push and let it be know of the great trade schools that are out there. I feel it is really about getting them interested at a young age and keeping them interested with the new and exciting technical innovations that have come around over the last 10 years or so.

Honestly, it all starts with kids being able to see women working construction jobs. If little girls believe it is a job option from the beginning, then it becomes more of a possibility for them. This means more of a female presence in media as well as the field.

Only 10% of the employees at my company are women, and we all work in the office in some capacity. There are NO women in the field.

Thank you for highlighting women in the construction industry. Over the last 5 years I have seen more women come along and fill construction positions - from CDL Drivers to the Pave Crew.

A lot more women are starting off at a younger age and working their way up through companies. It's great to see.

I am seeing a trend of more women in construction but continued outreach and communication that the construction industry is a lucrative field to have a career in are key.

The company that I work for has women in every position. I am a firm believer that it should not matter what your gender is, it matters if you can do the job well and succeed in that position.

It's a slow process but I am hopeful that continued education interests the youth and opens the minds of the experienced.
