The theme of Women in Construction Week 2022 is "Envision Equity"

As we are all well aware by now, women make up a small fraction of the construction industry compared to their male counterparts. Lots can still be done to help close the gender gap and build more awareness around the amazing career opportunities in our industry. There is definitely momentum to support and hire women in construction, but many are still looking for ways to move the needle a bit faster. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this important topic! Take a minute to reply to our discussion topic and let other members know about the strides that your organization is taking to help women thrive. How have you seen things change for the better for women in the industry? What do you think needs to be done to attract more women to the industry? Do you have any inspiring stories of women advancing in construction? What are your personal successes or perceptions as it relates to this important topic?

Younger girls seeing more women throughout all aspects of construction will help to spark more interest in the field as a whole. The more it becomes commonplace, whether in media or real world, the more I believe we'll see the numbers go up.

Our company is very accepting of hiring women. They also see the importance and the hard work that the current women do and compensate accordingly.

We need to start in our Middle/Junior High Schools & High Schools of exposing young girls to the trades. We can miss some very talented workers because we don't have enough trades being exposed in our schools system, and this goes across the board for all trades and technology. We have to stop the thinking that everyone will or wants to go to college, and if the construction industry section that need college degrees, it starts with exposing our young people to careers at an early age. To me this is the key.

I think it's difficult for women in construction because of the stereotypes that it's a man's type of job. I think a little respect and open mindedness can go a long way in creating more jobs in the construction industry for women

You are your own biggest enemy. Not everyone will like you for many different reasons. If you can prove you are a hard worker and semi-intelligent, it does not matter what color or sex you are. The only color that matters is green. Remember that.

It's been a slow process but I think the rate of growth is improving. More women in construction inspire more women to look to construction as a career.
