There are more women joining JATC's now more than ever. Companies are improving treatment of workers and working conditions, mostly by enforcement of new laws (AB1825 in California, for example). Women joining the trades need mentorship, and more protection from unfair treatment. In the office, women need to establish their professional roles more firmly and don't over-volunteer to do things that don't pertain to their jobs. My personal experience is that when you show up with confidence and ample knowledge, men will treat you with respect.

Women play a big at GBI, we believe they should feel like this an industry they can be a part of.

I have been in the industry for more than 20 years and I have seen the amount of respect for women improve - we used to just be "the girl" now I don't hear that term anymore. And that makes me very happy!

There has been a significant local shift in more women entering the construction field in the SE. I believe that reaching out to a younger crowd - high school age - would go a long way to show future women in construction how this trade can be a great career whether in the field or office setting.
