There's never been a more important time to build a diverse and inclusive workforce

With an extreme lack of skilled workers in the construction industry, there's never been a more important time to build a diverse and inclusive workforce. In this For Construction Pros article, they list some tips that could change the way women feel about careers in construction and attract them to our great industry. What are your thoughts? Is there anything you would add to their list?

I'm fortunate to work for a company that is inclusive and understands that diversity benefits all employees. We have women in all areas - Operations, Field and administrative. So much growth potential for everyone, including women, in this industry!

Teaching kids about options for careers and getting them involved at a younger age to think about their options is always a great idea.

Normalizing women in Construction, the company I work for takes pictures of all the crews of men and women. So when we go to job fairs women can see they can have a career in construction as well.

I would say to lower the emphasis on college as a necessary part of life - it isn't. Trade schools have just as much value, and from what I have seen, you actually get paid way more for a trade than most jobs out of college.

Start early in middle school and expose girls to a wide variety of vocational skills that were predominately male. They may find something that they are very interested in. By high school/ college girls have already chosen a more traditional part. And equal pay!

We have a lack of skilled workers in general in the Construction Industry. If women can help bridge this issue, that's great!

I think we need to make sure we change the culture and that the women in construction get treated the same as the men, not just financially but socially as well so they feel like they belong just as much as men.

We are recruiting more women more than ever in the work place. We also have been hiring many 1-5Y apprentices.
