Preventing Harrasment in the Workplace

How might the new U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidelines "Promising Practices for Preventing Harassment in the Construction Industry" decrease workplace harassment? Have you seen your company implement any of the following? Five core principles that have generally proven effective in preventing and addressing harassment: Committed and engaged leadership Consistent and demonstrated accountability Strong and comprehensive harassment policies Trusted and accessible complaint procedures Regular, interactive training tailored to the audience and the organization.

I'm interested to see if these new guidelines make a difference. Construction is a different world that often thrives on walking that line between harassment and good fun. It's tricky but no one should ever feel unsafe or unwelcome.

Any good team creates a positive environment for the whole team. Growth and improvement come best within companies and with people who feel like they are safe and being taken care of. Harassment is the fastest way of killing that kind of environment. If you want improvement, build a positive environment.

Build people up, don't tear them down. For most, our work family is our second family. Treat them with kindness. Our company has implemented values to encourage one other as we are all a team. Teamwork makes the dream work.

No one should experience any type of harassment, so our company has created a policy for any issues.

My company has amazing directors who have implemented, and put into practice, strong and comprehensive harassment policies. They regularly check in with team leaders, who, in turn, check in with their teams to keep their fingers on the pulse of the business - especially regarding harassment. This allows them to deal with situations before they become a problem. Yay for the US EEOC for implementing these guidelines!!

We haven't had any issues with harassment at our jobsites, but our core values for our company were created in a way to help prevent these issues.
